Temporary DB issue today 3/20/2007

Hi everyone.  As some of you may have noticed we had a temporary outtage today.

One of our primary Database servers crashed for one reason or another.  Generally when that happens the cluster (other servers),  will physically reboot the server and it will quickly recover itself.  The server DID recover,  however it detected issues with the file system and database that it repaired before putting itself back online.

If this same scenario happened with any other server in the cluster, you would not have noticed any downtime.  However this one particular server is the only one that can potentially create a short down time -- and it did.

The good news is this should be the worst case scenario.  The most critical server crashed for whatever reason.  It was rebooted without human intervention.  It repaired itself and brought itself back online.  That's a good thing.

And for your peace of mind -- IF the server was damaged beyond repair, we do have a hot spare that can take it's place in minutes.

Thanks,

Just an update. The same server crashed again today and we quickly moved to our backup DB server. We are replacing that machine in the cluster. Everything is running fine and will continue to run as we repair the server.
