Help fight fraud with FRAUDNET - Website Forge - Shane Merem
July 1st, 2008 at 10:50 am   starstarstarstarstar

Would you like to be able to avoid fraudulent charges and help warn others?

With the help and suggestions from Chuck at www.clrmarine.com (and others) we decided to put up a BLOG of fraudulent activity to help warn other Website Forge merchants of possible fraudulent activity.

We will also start posting some tips and advice to help identify and avoid fraudulent transactions.

Go to www.support.websiteforge.com and clock the FRAUDNET button on the menu.

I have protected the page with the following username and password:

user: fraud

pass: net

Please email any possible fraudulent activity to support@websiteforge.com and I'll post it to the blog so we can warn others.

Hi Shane,

Not sure if I can classify it as "fraud" but it sure feels like it! I paid an SEO firm to optimize my website. They asked for $1500.00 and $125.00 a month. The catch was the first $1625.00 had to be overnighted by check (which they gladly paid for). Two days later, they billed my credit card another $250.00 which they claimed was a month in advance. Since I signed up mid month (May) I felt they were already paid until mid June. After arguing the point, I started checking out their reputation (too late for me!) and found at least 43 complaints on the BBB and many complaints on Ripoff.com. I immediately protested the charges on my credit card, but of course the check was cashed so nothing I could do.

Costly lesson learned: BEWARE of anyone that will only take a check and ALWAYS check out any sites BEFORE you do business with them. These people also wanted access to my "FTP" files, which I don't even know what that is. Thank goodness for Terry who warned against that! What they did for me was to post their name all over my web pages (I have since removed)

Nancie,

I am sorry to hear of your misfortune.  Unfortunatley, unscrupulous individuals prey upon honest people who are trying to do the right thing.  Which in turn reflects on the industry as a whole.

There is a saying "Trust but verify" that I think is backwards. It should be "verify and then trust" particularly when requesting a service such as this.

I am curious why you chose this SEO instead of Netcorp?

I have been very pleased with Kevin Gannon at Netcorp's results in helping optimizing our website and so have many others.

The great thing about the Website Forge System is that it incorporates the features and additional services to companies that are interconnected and have a proven track record of honest dealings.
