Don't put your cart before the horse (or web site)

Don't purchase your credit card merchant account/gateway before you know your website needs!

More and more often I am talking to people that need an e-commerce web site that call me just AFTER they signed a term agreement on a merchant account or credit card gateway.

Purchasing your merchant account before knowing your website needs is like buying tires for your car before you know which car you want... There's a good chance your tires won't fit!  And yes.. You may not need to purchase the tires in the first place since a new car usually comes with a set of tires.

Why is this a problem?  Well, first the design and function of your web site should be your number one priority.   The merchant account is only one piece of a larger puzzle. You don't want your credit card processor telling you how your website should function. Just like you don't want your tire salesman telling you what car you need to buy for your tires.   Good marketing is tricking people into purchasing their merchant accounts BEFORE they know what type of web site they need.

Every merchant account provider will say "It's easy to hook up to our system" or promise that a shopping cart is already included with their merchant account.  What they don't tell you is how restrictive and often ugly this interface can be.  Also it may be true that any "web developer" can integrate into their system... But why pay for extra programming when your web developer can recommend a merchant account provider for the same (or even lower) price that is already compatible with their web site offerings?

"Don't be that guy!" .  First find a web site company you are comfortable with and help your web guy help you save money!.  I'll say it again.. Help-your-web-guy-help-you-save-money! .

In the case of Website Forge, we have already negotiated an agreement with POS Processing, a linkpoint and auth.net reseller to provider our customers low pricing and good service.  We do not make any money with this arrangement.  We simply make it easy for our customers to shop for a merchant account that we believe is well priced and very reliable.  Not to mention it will integrate with all of our web site packages seamlessly.

If you would like to take advantage of these pre-negotiated rates for Magnus Software and Website Forge customers contact Dale Spenrath at www.posprocessing.com
