Split Shipping for large orders (UPS)
January 1st, 2007 at 2:37 pm   starstarstarstarstar

Recently a customer of ours selling large volumes of chocolate found that once an order's total weight reached the maximum shipping weight of UPS -- the shipping calculation went nuts.  Since the shipment would not be one large box, but actually several smaller boxes this caused obvious problems.

We resolved this by splitting the total weight and calculating the shipping as separate containers.  This is an option you can now control in your shipping settings.

Contact support@websiteforge.com with any questions about large shipments or split shipments.  (over 70 lbs, over 150 lbs, etc. )

This is a very important option for us and I would like to thank Shane for putting up with my constant questions on this subject matter of shipment weight.

I am hoping soon that buyers can buy from there wish list like they can buy from there gift list.

This is a great idea Shane posting this forum were we can all work together to make our websites better as a whole. The free flow of ideas spur even more ideas! Open communication is the key to any great bussiness. Having a closed management system were directive's come from the top down is the kiss of death to any bussiness model these days. Shane took a Brave step here opening a forum like this to were we all can fire any ideas, complaints, or issues out for all of us to see and solve and they actually talk back to us! Think about it this is really cool! Can you find another website provider that does this?

Is there a fix for this in xCart as well? We have the same issue with our online store. Many thanks for your help with this bothersome issue! (We receive a "no shipping method available" message for large orders.

Hi Jennifer. Actually you have x-cart. This is a software program we used to integrate before Website Forge was fully completed.

We can probably provide the same feature... However, it would be billable hourly. X-cart has alot of code and when you start to make changes there is often a ripple effect with bugs and such.

I have recently talked to Nicole about upgrading to the Website Forge system and she has considered it. Currently it has many features and reasons to use over x-cart. Mostly the reliability and search engine friendliness. Website Forge is now very fast compared to most solutions after the major upgrades and hardware changes we performed recently.

We can import your entire inventory and help you migrate if you choose to. Have Nicole give me a call or shoot me an e-mail.

I have several items that ship in separate boxes due to the size or type of product. Can I set up shipping to calculate this? Right now, if a customer purchases any of those items it calculates as one box and I loss a lot in shipping charges.

Hi Chuck. I received your support ticket on this. The feature we are discussing is related to shipments that exceedt he maximum package weight.

In your case it sounds like some products will always ship as one box. We don't have an option to specify this. I guess we can consider this in the future as this is the first time I've been asked for this.

Here is what I would do. Use the "FREIGHT" field in the individual products to add any extra fees to that particular product. When you use this field on an individual product -- it is added to the shipping cost after the standard calculations are done. This way you can make sure you are compensated when those items are ordered.
