Form "spamming" countermeasure added to Website Forge
March 4th, 2007 at 1:09 am   starstarstarstarstar

Since spammers are here to stay -- we are forced to constantly battle each new spamming method.  Some spammers will abuse your contact forms with an automated script or software.

We have added a "Code Verification" field type to the Feedback Form module.  This is what you commonly see as an image displaying several letters or numbers that you have to read and retype to submit the form.

This human readable image assures that your form is not mass submitted by a script or software.

You add this control just like you would add any form field.  Contact support@websiteforge.com if you have any questions.

Hey real nice upgrade. I have a rew minor suggestions for this. when a person does not put in the numbers in the box or does not do it right it will say incorrect verfication code. Most people will not understand this. I would suggest that you display the following when they mess things up.

Please submit the correct code in the box displayed here. This is our antispam protection for you and our site.
I would also make it display beside the anti spam box. It now displays an error at the top of the page and people will not think they did something wrong.
Thank you Brian
