Please give us your new feature ideas!

This post is created to let everyone post new feature ideas and discuss them.  I'm sure we can't do all them instantly.  However we can learn and depending on how many people ask for the same feature we can prioritize them.

It would be very helpful for search engine optimization if in the m5 products details we could enter specific keywords and meta tags for individual products on this page. As it stands now this page only allows for site default keywords and meta tags.

In the shopping cart would you consider splitting the the view cart/checkout button into 2 buttons instead of 1 button. Ideally, the view cart button would be a pop-up similar to the calculate shipping cost feature that would show the contents of the cart with the part and price with the ability to remove an item. The checkout button function would remain the same as it is currently. My reasoning behind this request is that some manufacturer's require that we follow their Minimum Advertised Price but we can offer an add to cart feature to show a lower price than advertised in the shopping cart. It is rather cumbersome for a customer who wants to view the "add to cart new price" and then having to go to the checkout and remove the item and then click the continue shopping button. I understand the reasoning behind not making it easy to remove an item from the cart but customers who find it incovenient to toggle back and forth between product pages and the checkout will just leave the site.

Button Example:

[view cart] [check out]

The current viewcart/checkout button would be split into 2 equal sized buttons equaling the current size button so as not to alter the current dimensional layout. The brackets represent the button edges with a space in the middle seperating the two.

Or an easier option could be the view cart text could be hyperlinked to the function described above and the checkout hyperlinked to its current function.

Jerry,

On the separate [view cart] [check out] buttons and view cart opening in a popup window, we'll consider adding this feature.

Jerry:
The only place that I am using the advanced image gallery is on my home page: http://www.partsguysusa.com/

...
WHAT'S LEFT TO BE DONE TO COMPLETE YOUR MISSION:
4) Edit “Link to Category Page” for the rest of your items in Advanced Gallery module (luckily shouldn't be tough since you have like 21 item)
5) Publish the site to move the changes live.
FINAL NOTE: Currently, the hint for the thumbnails reads just like image titles. With the new linking scheme, I think it would make more sense to have image hints display CATEGORY DESCRIPTION. This is not possible technically right now, but we are considering adding option. What I'm getting at is, type in proper text in Link Title sub-field for all your existing items. Though these won't show up now, they will do once we add that option.

Jerry,

The system was updated today to facilitate items ## 4 and 5.

4) The automatic linking tool can be used in admin for URL fields (your Link to Category Page field). I used it for your first item - Flat Panel LCD TVs - and see now the link will work properly in both the published and preview mode (it will be adjusting accordingly). Compare http://www.partsguysusa.com and http://www.partsguysusa.com/preview/.

5) The hint for the images is specified with the "Image Alt Text is Taken from" parameter as before (under General Settings of the Advanced Gallery module). But if you set it to (as I did for you m9 module), then it is taken from the Link Title sub-field (of the Link to Category Page field)... BTW, this sub-field is filled in automatically when you use the linking tool.

IT IS NOW RECOMMENDED THAT YOU RE-LINK ALL OTHER ITEMS WITH THE LINKING TOOL (if you don't, however, not much in your live site behavior will change... so no big deal).

Please let me know if you have questions on those new add-ons.

Hi Shane and Andy, There are many members/ counselors of mine in m15 who do not upload a photo of themselves when they sign up. This leaves the list view page looking akward when some members have a thumbnail photo and some don't. I'd like a way for the system to be able to set a photo as a deafult photo to be used in all listings until the member uploads their own photo to their own listing. Thanks for considering the idea, Noah

Noah, we'll add the default image feature in the next few weeks.

Inventory :

Could we have a display of what items are out of stock like we have now for inactive products? This is nice all you need to do is click on the inactive link and those products are displayed the same would be nice for out of stock items on the website.
Thank you
Brian

Out of stock issue.
Could we get a message like we have for inactive products that tells us when a item is out of stock? This would be much easier than looking through our entire list to see what is out of stock.
Thank you
Brian

Brian,

Do you mean you would like to go to the product list and be able to filter out in-stock products and see out-of-stock ones only? If so, this filter has always been under Inventory Control section. It is missing from the main product list (Products section). I just ran a test and had 139 out-of-stock items listed (out of nearly 3K of your total products).

The only thing that you might want being added is place those out-of-stock filters on the primary product list. I'm just not sure if that is really necessary. Please let me know if you think it is. If so, I'll get with the programmer on the technical feasibility of this.

Lately I've had more customers complaining about the status update emails. There seems to be confusion about the status changes as they are currently listed, ie "Backorder => Complete". They are emailing and asking which status it is (obviously the arrow doesn't seem to get the point across).

Is there another way the system could do it? Perhaps the old status isn't' even needed, so in the above case it would just list "Complete'" and the table header in the email would just say "current status".

Has anyone else received feedback on this?

Could this be changed just for our account or would the change have to be system-wide for website forge?

Hi Justin. Never had this complaint. Can you outline what you think would make sense. We'll do an overall upgrade to make it clearer.

We are having the same problems. Our status changes should either be simple like justin said or much differnt than the previous invoice sent to the customer after they place an order. The main problem is that people no longer read e-mails very carefully they just scan the information. That is why a differnt format is needed from the various status changes. We should be able to high light any thing of importence in the e-mail.
