How about e-mail management?
States like California and many more states are requiring that you have a way to opt out of e-mail lists via link. If you do not have a way to do this you could be subject to heavy fines as a spammer. Could we have a link that is sent with every e-mail that the person could opt out or opt in to the mailing list just by clicking on a link? Doing this manually is very annoying. My local site has this feature we use phpBB 2.0.21. as our e-mail management service. Every e-mail we create has a link that is automatically sent with it that gives them a way to opt out.

Out of stock message:

We have some products which nobody can get so when we are out of stock we are out. On the website it would be nice to have a link that says E-mail me when this product is back in stock. It would capture the product number and everything else and when it becomes in stock the system would e-mail the customer that it is back in stock.

Inventory :

Could we have a display of what items are out of stock like we have now for inactive products? This is nice all you need to do is click on the inactive link and those products are dislayed the same would be nice for out of stock items on the website.

Frame size adjustment:

I find the "frame borders, margins, and sizes" tool difficult to understand with the choices of "auto, minimum, and exact" moving things around in unexplained ways.

It seems like it would be a whole lot easier if you could click on the border of a frame and resize it like a picture.

Any ideas of how this could work easier, or, are there instructions written somewhere?

Hi Bamboo. I understand your point. Until you understand why its like that, it is hard to see the value.

First, there are several different methodologies to such an interface. Suffice to say that there is always a ratio between "ease" and "flexibility".

If your site was restricted to only very simple content, the interface would be very easy. As more flexibility and features are added, more options are created and the more complex any system will be.

The biggest reason we have the interface this way is because we want to assure that your web site is (1) Always compatible with all browsers no matter what you do in the content area and (2) You have the ability to do just about anything you want on each page. So we have to enforce some HTML standards within the interface.

Our competitors are always falsely stating that tools like "Dreamweaver" or "Front Page" are ideal for the same reasons (incidentially they do have borders you can drag). It's just not true. In fact, Front Page is always best viewed ONLY in Internet Explorer browsers and programmers have to perform very specific tasks within Front Page to assure compatibility with other browsers. Keep in mind that Dreamweaver and Front page are tools a programmer should use -- not a business owner. Even if we did provide a border you can drag -- the interface would be very sluggish when delivered via your browser. This is a pretty big topic I can write about in the future.

Back to your topic -- Though frames are independent, they cannot ignore other relative rows and columns. So here are a few basic rules.

1. There MUST be at least one frame within each row that width must be set to AUTO. Because if there is ONLY one frame, it must grow to the relative page width.

2. There MUST be one frame within each column that height must be set to AUTO for the same reason.

So if you want to fix the width or height of a frame you must split the frame into at least two. This way you are assured that one frame will automatically stretch to fill the unused portion of the screen.

3. Of you wish to resize the height of a frame and there are more than one frame in the same row, you must click the "Select Parent Cell" option from the tool bar to select the entire row before changing the height of that entire row.

4. Use the "Minimum" height and width features to eliminated unwanted vertical and horizontal space and tightly control text. Like when putting header frames over frames of text or images. Or to let two images in separate frames touch.

5. Split up nearly every unique paragraph into a separate frame. This will help with alignment and make the pages easy to edit.
