E-commerce Website Checklist:

 

1. Setup the abandoned cart notice (this is something that Remote Hands can do for you or you can set it up yourself.)
let us know if you wish to offer people a discount for returning or if there is any particular message you would like to convey (such as a reminder on your great shipping rates )  The abandoned cart notice will go to any user that was logged in added items to their cart and left before checkout.

 

2. Add an incentive to your site to get users to sign up and create an account.  the more users you have logged in and checkout out the site the more abandoned notices will go out and the higher conversion rate you will have.  I have seen many different incentives setup.  Anything from a free ebook when you sign up for some promotional pricing on the first order.  It is totally up to you, you probably know your clientele better than we do.  If you tell us what kind of incentive you are wanting to offer Remote Hands can get it set up for you.

 

3. Enabling Ratings can help too.  When people come to the site they often like to see feedback from other buyers.   Google, Bing, Yahoo and other Search Engines take ratings into account as a ranking factor when they crawl pages now. Article on ratings as a ranking factor.

 

4. SSL certificate.  Securing your whole site with the new SSL certificate has benefits with the search engines too. More Details about our SSL

 

5. Send offers. Whether it's an offer to subscribe to your awesome blog or some sort of promotion on your website...OFFER IT! :) They won't think about you unless you intentionally become a thought in the minds of your audience. You don't have to have an e-commerce site to take advantage of the traffic that is already on your site!

 

6. Offer a Live Chat option.  There are free apps that will let you offer it.  There is an article here about the different types of clientele that appreciate Live chat vs other options.

 

7. AMP.  Google Amp is something that not everyone wants to offer.  It's a faster version of the site(which really helps with mobile loads) and is something that Google shows a preference for. https://www.ampproject.org/ there is more info on their site about what AMP is.  If you are wanting to have your pages AMPED it is something that Remote hands can

Are you a "skimmer"?
 
My wife says I am. Though I try not to admit it... I do catch myself reading an entire email in one glance. That certainly leaves plenty opportunity for me to miss important information.
 
It's definitely embarrassing when reply to a customer and theyhave to email me a second time saying "thanks for your fast reply but you didn't address my other two questions..."
 
I think my best suggestion is to wait until you have a full minute to give a proper reply. In our world of iPhones, iPads, Androids, and windows mobile phones....   We feel compelled to reply immediately to show commitment to our customers. That's great -- just try not to do it at the expense of a valuable reply.
 
I know those out there reading, know me personally, can cite at least one time where have made this mistake.... Believe me when I say I know I am just as guilty as anyone. I'm always making an effort to slow down.
 
I wrote this on my iPad in the car...
 
Yes right now I'm writing in the passenger seat on the way to visit family. Is the iPad just a large version of the iPod touch? YES! It is. In fact I was disappointed when I first tested Andy's iPad (VP of our core development team).
 
Then I tossed it in the car. Then I started replying to email real fast. Then realized I had not charged the iPad for the last 4 days and it still had plenty of battery. Then realized I could remotely connect to my desktop from anywhere. And on and on...
 
Bottom line, it's more convenient, more durable, cooler, and more efficient than a full sized laptop. I was not, and am not, an official "Mac fan" -- I AM a believer in my iPhone and iPad. I use them every day.
 
NOTE!! The hidden benefit is how an iPad can keep my kids occupied for hours at a time when you need a break!

 

 

What do successful people have in common?
 
Google it!  I did -- I'll save you the time.  The one thing you'll find in every single article or book is --  TENACITY!
 
 
That's right.  It's not brain power.  It's not education.  It's not money.
 
In fact many successful people are too dumb to realize they failed.  So they kept trying. 
 
"Successful people are too dumb to realize they failed"
 
- Successful people wake up every day ready to fight.
- Successful people don't make excuses when things don't go their way.
- Successful people often find very creative ways to solve a problem.
- Successful people may "fail" over and over again.  But don't see it as failure.
- Successful people eventually achieve what they want because they keep trying!
 
Don't buy the expensive books.  Google "what makes a person successful.." you'll see the same over and over.

Why my wife LOVES Google Calendar

 

First, I have a personal guideline -- If I have to use technolgy to enter data in more than one place for the same purpose, I don't use it.

 

Thats why I have always struggled to use a calendar application.  If I enter the appointment on my computer I need to be sitting at my computer for the reminder.

 

If I enter the appointment on my phone -- I may not be able to hear the reminder or may be on my desk phone while it goes off.

 

Finally I tried Google Calendar.  Google Calendar is easy to use.  Most impressive is the ability to sync with many applications.  I sync it with my iPhone, my iPad, my wife's Droid phone, and portions of my calendar with my team.

 

It is often said you should not separate your business and personal appointments so not to neglect one or the other.  With this in mind, my wife can look at my calendar and enter important social events or doctor appointments for me from her phone.  These appointments show up on my calendar instantly.  She can also see when I am available for lunch!

Using Skype Phone with the SAME phone number

 

I am one of the first to test new telephone products and often the last to fully trust the reliability of phone products.  Products like Vonage and Skype have made tremendous progress recently.

 

I signed up for a Skype account a couple years ago when a client told me his entire company used it for direct calls around the office.

 

Since our entire team already used a chat application -- it was easy to move to Skype for the benefit of voice and video chat.

 

I signed up for a phone number so I could make calls just like a regular phone.  I found myself using this phone often because it was better than any speakerphone I have owned.  The phone number is cheap to own.

 

The only caveat was this Skype Phone number was different than my normal line.  If people called me back using caller ID -- They would have to leave a message at my desk.

 

A week ago, Kevin Brown at www.garrettauto.com told me he could change the caller id of his Skype Phone to look just like his cell phone.

 

That is perfect.  I can sit at my desk and call anyone I wish.  If they call me back -- the will ring to my cell phone!  Now I won't miss any important return calls and eliminate any confusion.

 

The Skype Phone quality is very good and suggest you give it a try.

Scanning Documents with your iPhone or Android Phone

 

"Give me that receipt before you lose it..." -- The first words out of my wife's mouth when I return from the store..

 

I thought to myself "Scanning documents with my iPhone has to be more trouble than it's worth...."

Why my wife LOVES Google Calendar

 

First, I have a personal guideline -- If I have to use technolgy to enter data in more than one place for the same purpose, I don't use it.

 

Thats why I have always struggled to use a calendar application.  If I enter the appointment on my computer I need to be sitting at my computer for the reminder.

 

If I enter the appointment on my phone -- I may not be able to hear the reminder or may be on my desk phone while it goes off.

 

Finally I tried Google Calendar.  Google Calendar is easy to use.  Most impressive is the ability to sync with many applications.  I sync it with my iPhone, my iPad, my wife's Droid phone, and portions of my calendar with my team.

 

It is often said you should not separate your business and personal appointments so not to neglect one or the other.  With this in mind, my wife can look at my calendar and enter important social events or doctor appointments for me from her phone.  These appointments show up on my calendar instantly.  She can also see when I am available for lunch!

Using Skype Phone with the SAME phone number

 

I am one of the first to test new telephone products and often the last to fully trust the reliability of phone products.  Products like Vonage and Skype have made tremendous progress recently.

 

I signed up for a Skype account a couple years ago when a client told me his entire company used it for direct calls around the office.

 

Since our entire team already used a chat application -- it was easy to move to Skype for the benefit of voice and video chat.

 

I signed up for a phone number so I could make calls just like a regular phone.  I found myself using this phone often because it was better than any speakerphone I have owned.  The phone number is cheap to own.

 

The only caveat was this Skype Phone number was different than my normal line.  If people called me back using caller ID -- They would have to leave a message at my desk.

 

A week ago, Kevin Brown at www.garrettauto.com told me he could change the caller id of his Skype Phone to look just like his cell phone.

 

That is perfect.  I can sit at my desk and call anyone I wish.  If they call me back -- the will ring to my cell phone!  Now I won't miss any important return calls and eliminate any confusion.

 

The Skype Phone quality is very good and suggest you give it a try.

Scanning Documents with your iPhone or Android Phone

 

"Give me that receipt before you lose it..." -- The first words out of my wife's mouth when I return from the store..

 

I thought to myself "Scanning documents with my iPhone has to be more trouble than it's worth...."

it's not!  It's very easy.  I have scanned everything from legal documents to receipts.  I can scan and file a receipt before I leave the store.  It's that easy and convenient.

It works really well for me.  This method will assure you don't neglect items in your inbox that require more "time" or "thought" because you are always flooded with brand new email messages.

Do you know how embarrassing it is to get caught taking a photo of yourself in the restroom??!!

 

 

So I thought the elevator would work out better!  But of course the door flew open just as I was clicking the photo...  Needless to say the lady took the next elevator.  Pathetic.

 

Enter the G&L guys!  Finally someone to hang with at this amazing sushi bar.  Lots to eat and drink. 

 

 

After the lady took 4 photos of our plates -- she finally was able to fire off a photo of us. (I'm mumbling "Just hit the damn button lady..." while trying to hold a smile)

 

 

YES!  There was SAKE involved!  Or is that Saki?  Or Socky?  I'm too lazy to spell check.  Just suffice to say international booze was involved.

 

The G&L guys had to jet.. So I was back on my own again..  Found someone to take a photo..

 

 

Made up my mind that people from Chicago just can't operate a camera so ... Back to the drawing board...  Taking my own photos. 

 

 

Shopping (no not for purses!  It was the nearest mirror)

 

 

Orvis!  Finally get to see all that cool stuff up close.  Boy I wish I fished.

So here is the story.  My Blackberry died.  I am and aways have been a die-hard Blackberry fan.  I have had blackberries back before anyone knew what they were (back when they were ONLY email devices).

 

My Blackberry died last Tuesday.  I went to the AT&T store.  My contract was not yet up -- I couldn't qualify for any good discounts on phones (don't get me started on that...).

 

Anyways, I walked out of the store with an IPhone for less than a replacement Blackberry -- PLUS the monthly service was about $30.00/month cheaper than my Blackberry plan.

 

I don't need TelNav because the IPhone has Google Maps integrated (no GPS but the cell towers work nearly as well).  That saved me $10/month.

 

And the unlimited data plan was much cheaper starting at $20.00/month compared to $60.00.  I added $10.00/month for 1500 text messages and I was still $30.00/month ahead.

 

I'm not sure how the pricing works across the country -- But I am very happy with the IPhone (unexpectedly).  The mail and browser work very well and it's the closest thing you'll get to a real browser.

 

You could easily use the IPhone to do things like view/manage your WebsiteForge orders and even use your credit card gateway like Linkpoint and Authorize.net with the IPhone to process credit cards. Our Project Portal System works perfectly there too.

 

Just figured I'd share my experience!

That is great news because it allows us to improve the code very quickly so that you won't run into these issues.

 

The two empty BLOG posts were random attempts to exploit our code to submit spam without our permission.  The spam failed but the posts did send.  Sergey is resolving this issue now (no, he never sleeps).

 

Of course all spam and security upgrades we perform will immediately transfer to your BLOG code as well.

 

Another big advantage of our BLOG is the "Image Text" field that requires a real live person to read and re-type text displayed in an image.  This makes a substantial decrease in automated spam attempts.

 

You can see the "Image Text" field when you post comments in this BLOG.

Recently we switched Website Forge (888-558-2446) to a company called www.voiceshot.com .  We switched becuase Voiceshot offers something that VirtualPBX didn't.  A programming API.  I want to make sure I tell you that VirtualPBX is a MUCH better choice if you need a good phone system without a programming API.

 

A programming API will allow us to offer some enhanced support features to our customers.  First when you call in and hit support (option 2), we can access your account and do some basic troubleshooting BEFORE you talk to a technician.  For instance we can detect expired domains, full mailboxes, and other common support issues instantly.

 

This API will allow us to provide online billing information like your last payment date, oustanding balances, and when to expect the next charge on your credit card.

 

We also can create OUTBOUND call campaigns for mass notifications and marketing.

 

Right now we have the system configured with the basics.  We are adding these enhanced support features over the next few months.

 

I also wanted to share this with you because this same service might be useful to your business.  If you are interested in a database driven, interactive, virtual phone system -- let us know and I'll share my new knowledge.

*  Just be the coolest geek in the group

 

Lets face it.  One of the perks of running a web based company is that you can work from anywhere!  So start doing it!

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed an Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.
